Have you ever wondered how web sites get to the top of the results pages? There are two answers to this pointed question. Both require a search using keywords or keyword phrases but one involves sponsored links and the other involves natural search. If your confused at this point, let me define the differences between the two types of results. Sponsored links involve a payment to a search site like Google, Yahoo!, Ask or MSN (to name the top 4) for keyword phrases and placement of web pages in the search returns for those keywords or keyword phrases. The sponsored links stand out over the unpaid returns and are typically at the top of the search results. They may have a different background color and usually say sponsored links to the right of the listings. The natural search results (organic) are links that have used natural methods (unpaid) and have been returned in the results page for a search(due to optimization methods applied to the page). It is possible to achieve the desired results using both methods and potentially achieve additional traffic across your web site and potentially increase the revenues for your business.

Are We Google Lab Rats?
Do you enjoy reading Blogs? Have you considered starting your own Blog? I found an easy read that lists specifics on Creating Web pages and Blogs. Paul McFedries has a book that I have found had many useful examples for a person new to writing for the Web. It is entitled THE COMPLETE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO Creating a Web Page & Blog Sixth Edition. In it are easy directions for setting up and maintaining a blog (or web page). Back to my original question, Are we Google Lab Rats? Please consider how Google is impacting the way we communicate and do business online and tell me your thoughts on this subject.

Optimization Requires an Open Mind
When someone comments on your website, whether it is flattering or not, how does it make you feel? Having an open mind requires that you put your feelings aside and look at the website from the point of view of the commenting person. Looking at your business from a fresh perspective may cause fresh ideas to flow into your business. That is not to say that you must agree with those whom have an opinion about your site. If the comment is vague, ask the commenter to be more specific. When comments become constructive they are action oriented. For example a comment such as "It's okay" is a vague comment and there is nothing specific about it. Ask them questions like what is okay about it? Get to the heart of the comment. Ask them what they would like better? If it doesn't matter to you what others think about the site, then I would say that the mind is not open to the consideration that there may be something that one can do to make the site more useful, more pleasing to the eye, easier to navigate. Keeping an open mind is a great beginning for optimizing your website. If your website doesn't allow you to change your content, you may want to consider changing to a content management website such as Cassara Systems, Inc. What do you think?
